People: Mexico appoints two new deputy governors

Mexico: Congress approved the appointment of Gerardo Esquivel and Jonathan Heath as deputy governors of the Bank of Mexico on January 23.

All four deputy governor positions on the Bank of Mexico’s board are now filled. 

The Mexican lawmaker Tonatiuh Bravo Padilla warned that Esquivel’s appointment may create a conflict of interest with the Ministry of Economy, according to local media outlet Excelsior.

Mexico’s incoming president Andrés Manuel López Obrador is expected to name Esquivel’s wife
