RBNZ extends acting governor’s term

Christian Hawkesby to remain in place for six months while board looks for permanent governor

Christian Hawkesby’s term as acting governor of New Zealand’s central bank has been extended by six months, the bank announced today (April 8).

Hawkesby has been performing the role on an interim basis since March 5, following Adrian Orr’s unexpected resignation.

The extension means he will continue to occupy the position while the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) looks for a permanent governor who will hold the office for a five-year term. The RBNZ said Hawkesby’s interim role could be extended
