BoT says payment systems still in operation following earthquake

Powerful quake hits Myanmar and Thailand as Bangkok’s stock exchange suspends trading

Thailand’s payment systems are maintaining normal operations after a powerful earthquake struck the country and neighbouring Myanmar, the central bank has said.

In an social media post at 08:35 GMT, the Bank of Thailand (BoT) said “payment systems and various financial services are currently operating normally”.

About an hour before the post, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake – with an epicentre just outside the city of Mandalay in Myanmar – hit the Thai capital Bangkok.

The government has declared
