Cyprus governor 'will not resign' despite political pressure

Cypriot president orders attorney general to investigate 'conflict of interest'

Chrystalla Georghadji will not resign as governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, she announced last night, despite pressure from the government over a perceived "conflict of interest".

Cypriot president Nicos Anastasiades has asked the country's attorney general to examine Georghadji, on the basis that her husband, a lawyer, represents an investor in the failed Laiki Bank who is involved in a legal dispute with the state.
