A round-up of central bankers in the news and on the move during the past three months
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed Fatih Karahan the country’s new central bank chief on February 3. Hafize Gaye Erkan resigned from the role in January, after just over six months in the role, denouncing what she called a smear campaign. The Turkish central bank had raised rates drastically to curb soaring inflation under Erkan’s leadership. Karahan was most recently a deputy governor of Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, starting in July 2023
