Government and opposition both reject Bank of Uganda rumours
Governor’s position remains unfilled 19 months after previous incumbent died
A senior opposition politician has denied any interest in leading the Bank of Uganda, as a government official rebuffed rumours the president had appointed a new governor.
That position has remained formally vacant since Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile died in office in January 2022. Deputy governor Michael Atingo-Ego has led the central bank since.
The Nile Post reported Nathan Nandala Mafabi, secretary-general of the Forum for Democratic Change, said he was qualified to hold the position,
