People: Arce to lead ECB economics directorate

EU: Óscar Arce will become the new director-general economics at the European Central Bank from the first quarter of next year, the ECB announced December 7. He succeeds Frank Smets, who has held the post since February 2017.

Smets, a Belgian national, is taking a year of unpaid leave and will return in 2023 in a “principal adviser” role.
