Central bank assures public no funds were lost during incident

Malaysia’s central bank has stressed its payment network is secure after hackers attempted to transfer funds using “falsified” Swift messages.

“Bank Negara Malaysia detected and foiled a cybersecurity incident,” the central bank says in a statement issued on March 29.

Central Banking understands the fraud originated within the central bank’s systems, allowing hackers to forge Swift messages using the central bank’s credentials.
