The Bank of Uganda has launched an internal investigation following media reports of at least 62 billion shillings ($17 million) stolen by hackers in November.

In a press release on December 1, the central bank acknowledged reports of two incidents that “resulted in international payments being diverted from their intended beneficiaries”. The bank said it anticipates investigations will “comprehensively clarify” how these “were initiated and processed through the Bank of Uganda”.
