Moroccan governor calls for ‘shock therapy’ in education
Abdellatif Jouahri warns there is a ‘worrisome’ gap between ambitions and tangible achievements
Central Bank of Morocco governor Abdellatif Jouahri argues the "continued degradation" of education and training is a "major handicap" to the country's ambitions to become an emerging economy, in his opening statement in the institution's annual report for 2014.
Pointing to GDP growth of 2.4% in 2014, Jouahri warns there is an "absence of tangible signs of an overall income and employment-generating dynamism" in the economy, citing potential repercussions for human development.
