BoJ Tankan documents fall in business confidence

The Bank of Japan's Tankan survey, published on October 2, reveals a drop in confidence in business conditions across every size of enterprise.

Large enterprises – those with more than 1,000 employees – conveyed slight optimism on average, with 2% more companies reporting a positive outlook than a negative one across all industries; a 1% fall compared to the previous quarter. But confidence in the manufacturing sector exhibited a surprise drop to -3%, after it was forecast to be positive at 1%.
