Working group minutes: central banks weigh CBDC design choices

Central bankers discuss CBDC design elements, adoption rates and cross-border payments

Central bankers highlighted significant progress on digital currency but said there were still many outstanding challenges at the latest Central Banking interbank working group.

Participants from the Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific met virtually on September 18. Some members of the group had already launched a central bank digital currency (CBDC), others were working on pilots, while some had yet to be convinced that launching one was necessary.
