BoJ’s Shirakawa considers demographic change in Japan

Masaaki Shirakawa, governor of the Bank of Japan, delivered a speech today (May 30) examining the macroeconomic impact of Japan's aging population.

Opening the 2012 BOJ-Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies conference in Japan, Shirakawa said there was "downward pressure on the Japanese economic growth rate resulting from various channels reflecting the continuing population aging".
