Sarb releases ‘first-of-its-kind’ payments study

Central bank claims report is first comprehensive analysis in Brics countries

The South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) says its inaugural payments study is the first of its kind in Africa and in the Brics countries.

The report, published on September 5, is aimed at informing regulators and payment service providers, and providing a basis for future research into payments in South Africa.

“In other jurisdictions, research agencies or consultants are typically relied on for such information,” the Sarb tells Central Banking. “However, this research does not apply the diary survey
