The next governor of the Ukrainian central bank should be a “non-political technocrat” who will continue reforming the country’s banking system, retiring governor Valeria Gontareva tells Central Banking Journal in a forthcoming interview.

Gontareva said influential Ukrainian oligarchs had waged “an evil campaign of slander” that “accused me of destroying the country and banking system”, in the interview. “And you know why? Because I cleaned up the Ukrainian banking system from all of them.”
