Two-thirds of central banks regularly audit policy processes

Internal and external audit functions are combined in most jurisdictions

Two-thirds of central banks carry out regular audit of policy-making measures, the Governance Benchmarks 2025 finds.

While a clear majority (68.3%) of respondents regularly audit policy-making, 31.7% indicated that the audit is irregular in their central banks. By contrast, nearly all (98.4%) central banks say they regularly audit internal processes.

In a related question, four-fifths (79.7%) of central banks responded that they use both internal and external audit functions. Only 13 institutions
