Co-operation key to cyber defence success, says Sarb deputy

Groepe says institutions need to ensure fintech interconnectivity does not cause system failure

Central banks should “persist” in increasing collaboration with market participants to better strengthen cyber security, a deputy governor from the South African Reserve Bank has said.

“As interconnectivity increases the attack surface for cyber hackers into financial systems, institutions need to develop a more detailed understanding of mobile, cloud, big data, and security technologies,” Francois Groepe said on January 25.
