Spanish paper finds relationship between number of lawyers and litigation rates
Authors say results useful in conducting ‘preliminary’ evaluation of reforms
Research published by the Bank of Spain finds a "positive relationship" between the number of lawyers per capita and litigation rates across Spanish provinces between 2001 and 2010.
The working paper, Litigation in Spain 2001–2010: exploring the market for legal services, by Juan Mora-Sanguinetti and Nuno Garoupa, finds a 1% increase in the number of lawyers per capita was associated with a 1.4% increase in litigation.
