Data sharing and access to confidential information remain a legal, cultural, technical and organisational challenge at the European Central Bank (ECB), writes Aurel Schubert, the institution's director-general for statistics, in the latest issue of Central Banking Journal.

According to Schubert, the financial crisis has exposed traditional aggregated statistics used for monetary policy assessment at the ECB as "insufficient for comprehensive analysis".
