Cambodia’s central bank defends depiction of Buddha on banknotes
The 100 riel banknote is worth 2.4 US cents
The National Bank of Cambodia has defended its decision to include "religious references" on its currency after coming in for criticism over the depiction of the Buddha on one of the country's lowest denomination banknotes.
The new salmon and brown 100 riel banknote, released last week, features King Norodom Sihanouk and the Buddha on one side, and the Silver Pagoda and a statue of Buddha on the other.
