Gunmen steal $53m from Central Bank of Libya

Millions of dollars in local and foreign currency have been stolen from a cash truck on its way to the Central Bank of Libya, after armed men ambushed the vehicle in the town of Sirte.

The attack happened yesterday evening, according to state news service Lana. The vehicle was on its way from the airport to a branch of the central bank in Sirte, after the money was flown in from the central bank's headquarters in Tripoli, the report said.
