Brief History

Established in 1946, the central bank plays the leading role in the banking system of the DPR of Korea and is the country’s sole bank of issue. It is also responsible for loans and deposits and for adjustments in currency circulation. It reviews and licenses the establishment and business of all commercial banks, including foreign investment banks.
