OCC to create fintech office

US regulator will appoint chief financial technology officer to lead regulation of sector

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency will establish a new unit to regulate financial technology firms, it announced on October 27.

In a press release, the US regulator said it would create an Office of Financial Technology. The office will “provide strategic leadership, vision, and perspective for the OCC’s financial technology activities and related supervision”.
