Bank of Thailand governor plays down case for retail CBDC
Sethaput says Asean countries already have good retail payments infrastructure
The governor of Thailand’s central bank has played down the case for issuing a retail central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the country.
During a fireside chat today (November 7) at the Singapore Fintech Festival, Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput said: “We have not seen any kind of real implementation of retail CBDCs. I think there are good reasons for that, aside from the privacy considerations, and that is that the use case is not entirely clear.”
