Cash dominates payments in emerging economies, BdF finds
Survey based on responses from 16 central banks, mainly from emerging market economies
Cash is still the dominant payment method in emerging market economies, according to a survey of 13 central banks published by the Banque de France.
The central bank conducted the survey last November at its seminar on the use of cash and banknotes in the global banking system. A majority of respondents – 56% – said cash accounted for more than 65% of point-of-sale transactions.
