Zambia reinstates Kalyalya as central bank governor
Former World Bank official takes over following resignation of previous president’s central bank pick
Denny Kalyalya has been reinstated as governor of the Bank of Zambia, a year after he was controversially dismissed by the former president.
In a statement published September 27, newly elected president Hakainde Hichilema announced the appointment with “immediate effect”. Kalyalya will still need to be approved by Zambia’s National Assembly.
Former president Edward Lungu lost elections held on August 12 to opposition leader Hichilema, who took over the presidency on August 24.
