India appoints Malhotra as central bank governor
Government chooses not to renew Das’s term for another three years
The Indian government has appointed Sanjay Malhotra as the new governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), after choosing not to renew Shaktikanta Das’s term.
Malhotra is a senior civil servant who currently serves as revenue secretary in the Ministry of Finance. He joined the civil service in 1990 and went on to work in a wide range of divisions, including those covering financial services, energy, IT and mining.
His government biography says he has “extensive experience” in finance and taxation
