First female Bank of Botswana governor commanded fear and respect across a four-decade career

Linah Kelebogile Mohohlo, the Bank of Botswana’s first female governor, died earlier this month, aged 69.

In a tribute to Mohohlo – who was the institution’s longest-serving governor – the Bank of Botswana described her as a “remarkable person” who served the central bank with “exceptional energy and diligence” in the course of a career that spanned four decades.

Mohohlo first joined the BoB in 1976, working as secretary to the deputy governor. She moved on to the governor’s office, rotating
