High income economy central banks’ technology costs vary widely

Some central banks in advanced economies have kept costs as low as those in poorer nations

Central banks from high income countries may have more resources to devote to technology, but many have managed to keep their costs as low as their peers in poorer jurisdictions.

Five out of 16 institutions that disclosed their technology costs are from high income countries, but of these just one said they spent more than $60 million over the last 12 months. Two spent less than $9 million, in the same bracket as respondents from lower-middle and upper-middle income countries.
