Second governor of the Central Bank of Bahamas who later served as finance minister

William Allen, the former governor of the Central Bank of the Bahamas, died on January 6, 2021 at the age of 83.

Allen served as governor from 1980 to 1987, and later served as the Bahamas’ finance minister between 1994 and 2002.

“Sir William was a serene, visionary and consummate gentleman,” said John Rolle, the current governor of the Central Bank of the Bahamas, in a statement. “He served the central bank with distinction.”

Allen joined the Bahamas Monetary Authority in 1970 as a research
