Ireland nominates Lane for ECB vice-presidency
Irish governor has track record as academic economist and senior ESRB figure
The Irish government has nominated Philip Lane, governor of the country’s central bank, for the post of vice-president of the European Central Bank (ECB).
He is now one of two declared candidates to succeed current ECB vice-president Vítor Constâncio, who is due to step down in May. Lane has served as governor of the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) since November 2015, when he succeeded Patrick Honohan.
So far, the only one other candidate to succeed Constâncio is the Spanish finance minister
