Insider León takes Carstens’ seat at Bank of Mexico
León to take over from Carstens at end of week after lengthy selection process
The president of Mexico has chosen deputy governor Alejandro Díaz de León to succeed Agustín Carstens when he vacates the Bank of Mexico’s governorship this week.
On November 28, Enrique Peña Nieto appointed the deputy following a long selection process, which was finalised just days before Carstens’ departure to head the Bank for International Settlements. León’s appointment comes after the frontrunner for the job, Jose Antonio Meade, removed himself from the running.
