Brief History

The Central Bank of Lesotho was established as the Lesotho Monetary Authority in 1978. It started its operations on 2 January 1980. Through an act of parliament in 1982, the name was changed to the Central Bank of Lesotho and additional functions were prescribed to the new institution. In August 2000, the Central Bank of Lesotho act 2000 came into force. This new act has conferred considerable autonomy to the central bank and stipulates that its principal objective is to achieve and
