‘Unbanked’ numbers fall 20%, World Bank study finds
Two billion people still have no access to a bank account
The World Bank has published the first update to its Global Findex database, finding the number of adults without a bank account has fallen 20% since data was last gathered in 2011, but 38% of adults worldwide are still "unbanked", representing some two billion people.
The Findex database is built up from interviews with around 150,000 "nationally representative" and randomly selected adults in 143 jurisdictions. The laborious data-gathering process, conducted in conjunction with pollster Gallup
