India's election of Narendra Modi reflects the fact that, like in the US, people there are "more pragmatic and business-oriented than they are ideological or inherently bureaucratic," Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Richard Fisher said in a speech before the US-India chamber of commerce yesterday.

"Almost every US business leader I know" has heard of the story depicting how Modi, while chief minister in the state of Gujarat, had helped an entrepreneur set up a car factory in under 14 months
