Cœuré calls for greater integration in retail banking and capital markets

Delivers speech at ECB conference on optimal size of financial sector

Benoît Cœuré, an executive board member at the European Central Bank (ECB), believes that greater integration is still needed in retail banking and capital markets in the eurozone, because the financial crisis "undermined the process of integration by prompting a further retrenching of retail banking services within national borders."

In his speech at an ECB conference on the optimal size of the financial sector, held today in Frankfurt, Cœuré stressed that the new regulatory and supervisory
