Provopoulos steps aside as Stournaras named new Bank of Greece governor
Governor who led Greece through crisis is replaced by former finance minister
The governor of the Bank of Greece, Georgios Provopoulos, will be replaced on June 19 by Yannis Stournaras, the country's finance minister, until a government reshuffle this Monday past.
Provopoulos, who served as governor since 2008 and saw Greece's financial system through what prime minister Antonis Samaras today called the country's "most difficult post-war period", is understood to have sought a second six-year term as governor, but was asked to step aside by Samaras following Monday's
