Dallas Fed research questions Chinese growth data
An economic letter published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas on August 22 produces an alternative estimate of Chinese growth, finding that official figures may not be fully accurate.
The authors, Janet Koech and Jian Wang, use industrial electricity consumption as a proxy for production, suggesting this is less prone to political interference than output data.
