RBA paper expects larger spillover effects from mining boom

A Reserve Bank of Australia paper published on January 6 says policy-makers may face significant challenges in the period ahead, as investment from the 2000s mining boom in Australia spills over into the real economy.

The paper's authors, Ellis Connolly and David Orsmond, examine the spillover effects of the Australian mining boom in the 2000s. They say the rapid growth of emerging economies in Asia resulted in a surge in demand for commodities, sending mining investment in Australia to record
