Sarb’s Marcus on the economist profession

Gill Marcus, the governor of the South African Reserve Bank, on Tuesday said economist had a duty to be the voice of reason in society and explain the fundamental truths about scarcity.

At the Finmedia24 Economist of the Year Function, in Midrand, South Africa, Marcus said: "Economists may disagree on the appropriate economic theory or the appropriate models, but the role of the economist is to raise the level of debate to a more informed one - particularly about the nature and costs of trade
