Britain names new head of fiscal watchdog

George Osborne, Britain's chancellor of the exchequer, has named Robert Chote, the director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, a well regarded research organisation, as his choice to head the government's recently created Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).

In a letter sent to Andrew Tyrie, the chairman of Treasury Select Committee, on Wednesday, Osborne said Chote, one of ten candidates who applied for the role, was his preferred choice to chair the agency due to his "extensive experience
