IMF more upbeat on growth

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday revised up its estimate of global growth this year by three quarters of a percentage point on signs that extraordinary policy stimulus is having the desired impact.

The Fund now expects growth of 3.9% this year as emerging and developing economies recover strongly. These economies were now set to expand by 6%, up from an estimate of 5.1% made in October 2009. Growth in Russia and developing Asia was seen as being far stronger than earlier forecast
