Geithner optimistic on China boosting demand

Tim Geithner, the US Treasury secretary, on Thursday said he was upbeat that China could become less dependent on export-led growth by spurring domestic demand.

Geithner said at a press briefing in Pittsburgh that Beijing had made a "very, very substantial effort" to provide "very substantial support" for a recovery, which had spurred domestic demand. "If you look at the composition of their growth so far, their current account surplus, their trade surplus is coming down."

He further credited
