Borders affect prices
Borders have a significant economic effect at both the consumer and wholesale price level that departs from the law of one price, new research from the Boston Federal Reserve reveals.
The research looks at weekly data on retail prices and wholesale costs at the barcode level for detailed products from a large grocery chain with stores in the United States and Canada to measure the border's effect on market segmentation.
