RBI's Reddy on India's fiscal deficit

India must reduce its fiscal deficit but this must not limit the government's ability to promote inclusive growth, Y.V. Reddy, the governor of the country's Reserve Bank, believes.

"Exclusive focus on the fiscal deficit may tend to reduce the role of the government, and consequently, it will not be in a position to aid the process of growth, in particular, inclusive growth," Reddy said. "Re-prioritisation of expenditure may be achieved through reduction or elimination of subsidies and deployment
