Comment: ECB signals its move

ECB president Jean-Claude Trichet on Friday 18 November dropped his strongest hint yet that interest rates will be increased at the governing council meeting on December 1.

Judging by the markets' reaction to his comments, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that a change to eurozone rates for the first time in over 2 years is a fait accompli.

After Trichet said the ECB was ready to "moderately augment" interest rates, European bond yields tightened as market participants
