Some facts about the British labour market

Research from the Bank of England has uncovered that almost a quarter of Britain's workforce is employed by the state.

The paper highlights that employment trends in this sphere tend to be countercyclical. The research also notes that 7% of the working-age population change status between inactivity, employment and unemployment and 2.1% of the working-age population change their employer every three months.

The research uses data from the 1996 to 2007 period.
