Exporters create more jobs

Firms participating in international markets have higher employment growth rates than purely domestic companies, research published by the National Bank of Belgium finds.

The research uses data taken from Belgian manufacturing firms from 1998 to 2004 to uncover the trend for exporters to have higher employment growth rates.

However, data also indicate that firms involved in international markets seemed to create and destroy jobs simultaneously, meaning that international trade and foreign direct
