Fed's Beige Book reports weakening activity

The latest edition of the Federal Reserve's Beige Book, a guide to business conditions in the 12 districts overseen by the regional Feds, indicates that economic activity continued to weaken in December across the country.

District reports showed that retail sales were generally weak, particularly during the holiday season, despite sizable holiday price cuts in retail stores.

Lending activities also continued to decline or remained weak with many districts reporting that credit conditions
