Bank of Latvia - Annual Report 2008

For the Latvian economy, 2008 was a year of radical change, said Ilmars Rimsevics, the governor of the country's central bank in its latest Annual Report.

Rimsevics said that the economy went from a period of cooling off from a bout of excessive economic activity to having to request international help in order to prevent a possible economic collapse.

He also said that the cornerstone of the lending programme was the introduction of the euro in 2012 and for the lats to be pegged to the euro. He
